Whether you are pregnant for the first time, pregnant after experiencing pregnancy loss, unexpectedly pregnant, or pregnant while experiencing a chronic health condition or other stressors, therapists at Common Thread Counseling Chicago can offer support.

The journey of pregnancy can bring up a lot of complicated feelings. All at the same time.

Therapy can support you during hormonal changes, physical changes, and mood changes. It can be helpful to explore thoughts and feelings that arise during pregnancy, including uncertainty of the unknown and anxiety about the future.

Often, so much focus is put onto the baby’s needs, like prepping the nursery, breastfeeding vs formula, daycare vs nanny, which model of spaceship type of carseat to buy… that people forget to make space to discuss the individual and couple’s experience.

Individual therapy during pregnancy can be helpful to have space to verbalize concerns, tools to lower stress, and strategies to manage individual changes, relationship challenges, sociocultural expectations, and tools for managing a huge life transition.

As a perinatal mental health specialist, we can also assess for signs of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders that can surface at any point of the perinatal journey, like anxiety, depression or OCD.

If thoughts have been swirling around about changes to your family, career, or hobbies, feelings about labor and delivery, and how any past trauma or events may impact your current lived experience, individual therapy can provide you space and time to process.
